Organizations social inventions (people make them) for accomplishing common goals through group effort: concerned with how orgs can survive and adapt to change, necessary behaviours for survival: Flexible and innovative: adapt to change or die, concerned with how to get people to practiser effective teamwork. Organizational behaviour attitudes and behaviours of individuals and groups in organizations: how satisfied people are with their jobs, how committed, how supportive they are of others. Hrm is related but not the same as ob: ob helps you use hr practices. Ob is interesting, important, and makes a difference: main factor that differentiates organizations today is the workforce and human capital. Goals of ob: predicting organizational behaviour. Prediction is important (need to be trained) Doesn"t guarantee we can explain the reason for behaviour or develop a strategy to manage it: explaining ob. Prediction and explanation aren"t the same thing i. e. ancient egyptians could predict the sun would rise but couldn"t explain it.
